There are three key components of any boat that need to be protected from the elements: the sails, the hull, and the foils. One design sailboats typically spend much of their life in a parking lot and on the road, in addition to time on the water. Unprotected boats take a beating from pebbles and flying debris during travel, bumping around in the parking lot, and suffer the effects of ice and snow. Left unprotected, sails deteriorate rapidly from UV exposure from the sun and salt spray.
