The International Canoe (also known as deck boat, IC, Sliding Seat Canoe) is a boat which represents a long and complex evolution from paddle canoe to high performance racing dinghy. As it exists today, the IC is a one person craft, of about 17 feet in length, 40 inches wide, 180 lbs. with everything except sails, and powered by 114 square feet (10.6 square meters) of sail. Currently, the international fleet includes boats from the US, Canada, Great Britain, Sweden, France, Germany, and Australia, and is growing. The next World Championship, to be held in 2008 in Australia, will bring together about 50 boats on the starting line.
